GIGABYTE has unveiled its new flagship X670E AORUS Xtreme motherboard, ready for the world of next-gen Zen 4 processors from AMD.

GIGABYTE's new X670E AORUS Xtreme motherboard looks incredible 01

The new GIGABYTE Z690 AORUS Xtreme motherboard features the new AMD AM5 socket (LGA1718) with an 18 Phase (105A) power delivery, through dual 8-pin connectors. GIGABYTE has 4 x DDR5 DIMMs that are good for up to 128GB of DDR5 RAM, and feature EXPO (Ryzen Extended Profiles For Overclocking).

You've got 3 x PCIe x16 slots (1 x PCIe 5.0 x8, and 2 x PCIe 4.0 x4) as well as a total of 4 x PCIe 5.0 M.2 slots for some next-gen SSDs capable of pushing the dizzying heights of 13,000MB/sec (13GB/sec) reads. GIGABYTE includes some enthusiast-class 10GbE networking, plenty of USB ports, while we should have a price of around $500 for the X670E AORUS Xtreme motherboard. Not too bad at all.

MSI Project Zero: hides ALL of the motherboard power connectors

Anthony Garreffa | May 24, 2022 7:45 PM CDT

MSI has unveiled its new Project Zero: a new LGA1700-based motherboard that has no power connectors -- well, no connectors at all -- on the front.

MSI Project Zero: hides ALL of the motherboard power connectors 02

The only things that you can see are the LGA1700 socket (for an Intel 12th Gen Core "Alder Lake" CPU), 4 x DDR5 DIMMs, and some PCIe connectors. You can see the connectors are still there, but cleverly hidden -- it looks great, and seems to be a new trend -- hiding all of the cables for a more sleek look inside your PC.

GIGABYTE recently teased its new Project Stealth, offering a similar ninja-style hide-as-many-cables-as-you-can: but they also offered a custom GeForce RTX 3070 graphics card, too. MSI is only doing the board here, but there's still some redesigning here: motherboard headers, SATA and power connectors, and more.

Anthony Garreffa | May 24, 2022 4:29 AM CDT

ASRock has officially unveiled its next-gen X670E range of motherboards, with the new flagship X670E Taichi Carrara -- which isn't just a beautiful board -- but also celebrates ASRock's 20th anniversary.

ASRock intros X670E Taichi Carrara mobo: celebrating 20th anniversary 02

The new ASRock X670E Taichi Carrara is a special edition motherboard that the company crafted for its 20th anniversary: combining the strength and aesthetic of Carrara marble. It looks astonishing in the photo, and I bet it looks even better in the flesh with some RGB lighting reflecting off of it.

ASRock is tapping the enthusiast-grade X670E chipset from AMD, which will be using the AM5 socket and capable of taking Zen 4-based Ryzen 7000 series CPUs in the future. There's next-gen PCIe 5.0 here as well, for future-gen GPUs and soon-to-be-released PCIe 5.0-powered SSDs... APACER just announced the world's first consumer-grade PCIe Gen 5 NVMe SSD, capable of up to 13,000MB/sec (13GB/sec) and it'll fit right in on the X670E Taichi Carrara.

ASUS details its next-gen ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme motherboard

Anthony Garreffa | May 23, 2022 9:05 AM CDT

AMD has officially announced its next-gen AM5 platform, which will support both DDR5 and PCIe 5.0 technologies... with ASUS unveiling its monster new ROG Crosshair X670E motherboard.

ASUS details its next-gen ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme motherboard 01

The new ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E motherboard is the new flagship X670E motherboard from ASUS, with both PCIe 5.0 SSD and GPU support. PCIe 5.0 will be standard on X670, but some of the X670E motherboards -- like the ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E -- support both PCIe 5.0 SSDs and GPUs, not just one or the other.

ASUS has included everything including the kitchen sink with its new ROG Crosshair X670E, but that's no surprise for the upper echelons of the ROG enthusiast motherboards. ASUS includes next-gen USB 4 connectivity, 10GbE networking, a ROG PCIe 5.0 M.2 card, and a ROG GEN-Z.2 card.

The beast new MSI X670E CARBON motherboard looks amazing, with the team at MSI tweaking the board enough to give it a slick new look, and underneath we have a PCIe 5.0-capable SSD slot and what should be a next-gen PCIe 5.0 x16 connector.

It seems MSI is tapping the higher-end X670E chipset from AMD for its flagship new motherboards, while the lower-end of its stack uses the X670 chipset: the MSI X670-P WIFI. MSI's new X670E CARBON motherboard reportedly has a beefy 90A power delivery, while the PRO X670-P WIFI has 80A of power delivery.

GIGABYTE confirms X670 AORUS + AERO motherboards tease comes this week

Anthony Garreffa | May 22, 2022 6:05 AM CDT

The leaks on next-gen X670 motherboards isn't stopping, now it's time for GIGABYTE officially confirming its upcoming AMD X670 motherboards, ready for the world of Zen 4 processors later this year.

GIGABYTE confirms X670 AORUS + AERO motherboards tease comes this week 01

Computex 2022 kicks off tomorrow, with GIGABYTE confirming their upcoming "Power of Computing" event will see the company show off their next-gen AMD X670-based motherboards. We are expecting to see GIGABYTE's upcoming X670 AORUS Xtreme, X670 AORUS Master, X670 AORUS Pro AX, and X670 AERO D series motherboards.

GIGABYTE did confirm that their flagship X670 AORUS Xtreme motherboard will be using the "standard" X670 chipset, and not the purported X670E chipset that will offer PCIe 5.0 for both the GPU and SSD -- where some boards are only doing one, and not both. DDR5 will be a standard, however.

ASUS X670 Prime: new rumor suggests interesting dual-chipset PCB

Anthony Garreffa | May 22, 2022 5:04 AM CDT

AMD has a big week ahead of itself, with the next-gen X670 chipset launching packing both PCIe 5.0 and DDR5 technologies... and ASUS... well, they have an interesting dual-chipset board being teased.

ASUS X670 Prime: new rumor suggests interesting dual-chipset PCB 03

In a new leak we're getting to see the purported ASUS X670 Prime motherboard through a PCB diagram, with 4 x DDR5 memory slots and a single PCIe 5.0 x16 slot. ASUS is using a 14-phase VRM design. But at the bottom, we've got two chipsets -- ASUS isn't the first and won't be the last -- but we can expect next-gen high-end X670/E motherboards to be insane.

AMD's new AM5 socket uses an LGA1718 socket, supporting both DDR5 + PCIe 5.0 but also AMD's next-gen Zen 4-based Ryzen 7000 series CPUs. The difference here with the ASUS X670 Prime motherboard over the just-teased ASRock X670E Taichi is that we have PCIe 5.0 x16 for a graphics card... not a PCIe 5.0-based SSD. If you want super-mega-ultra-fast PCIe 5.0 SSD goodness, be careful which motherboard you buy.
