AMD's new Zen 4 CPUs just launched, now HWiNFO supports new Zen 5 CPUs

Anthony Garreffa | Oct 3, 2022 8:23 PM CDT

AMD's new Ryzen 7000 series "Zen 4" processors have only just hit the market, but now HWiNFO is wanting to get ahead of the rest with support for next-gen Zen 5 processors.

AMD's new Zen 4 CPUs just launched, now HWiNFO supports new Zen 5 CPUs 03

HWiNFO now has "early support" for AMD's new Zen 5 processors, and while we won't see much on Zen 5 for a while yet, once the engineering samples (ES) processors start dropping, HWiNFO will be ready to support them. HWiNFO's new update also includes enhanced support for Intel's next-gen Meteor Lake and Granite Rapids platforms.

AMD's new Zen 5 CPU architecture isn't expected until 2023, Intel's new Meteor Lake CPUs aren't due until late 2023 at the earliest, while Granite Rapids is a 2024+ product. HWiNFO wants to get in early with its "early support" and "enhanced support" it seems.

AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7000 'Storm Peak' CPU: 64C/128T of Zen 4 on 5nm 04

A new entry for a chip with the ODN code "100-000000454-20_Y" with the CPU finding itself in the "Family 25 Model 24 Stepping 1" which makes it part of the Zen 4 architecture. It looks like AMD's new Ryzen Threadripper 7000 series CPU is being teased here, codenamed "Storm Peak".

We have 64 cores and 128 threads for the HEDT market and desktop PCs with a Ryzen Threadripper 7000 series "Storm Peak" CPU, which matches the max 64C/128T of CPU power that the current-gen Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5000 WX-series CPUs: but they're based on the older Zen 3 architecture.

Intel Core i9-13900KS Special Edition CPU: launches in 2023 at 6.0GHz+

Anthony Garreffa | Sep 27, 2022 8:43 PM CDT

Intel kicked off its Innovation event today, unveiling everything we need to know about the 13th Gen Core "Rocket Lake" CPUs and the company's first-ever 6.0GHz CPU teased.

Intel Core i9-13900KS Special Edition CPU: launches in 2023 at 6.0GHz+ 05

The company teased a new 13th Gen Core "Raptor Lake" CPU with 6.0GHz out of the box, in limited volumes early next year. We should expect Intel to call it the Core i9-13900KS processor in Special Edition form, with KS-series processors being pre-binned we should expect the best power efficiency and of course: stability at ridiculous high CPU clocks.

Intel didn't detail whether the 6.0GHz clocks will be across all of the cores or just a particular number of them, but if it's anything like the Core i9-12900KS "Alder Lake" CPU which had a 5.5GHz all-core, the Core i9-13900KS with 6.0GHz all-core would be very, very nice to see.

AMD's new Ryzen 7000 series "Zen 4" IOD with its integrated RDNA 2-based GPU

The company has now confirmed that it's using an RDNA 2-based GPU with two Compute Units, based on a 6nm IOD die on the AM5 package, which is a new "disintegrated" way that the new Ryzen chiplet design allows. The chiplet design gives AMD the ability to upgrade and mix chiplets in future-gen Ryzen processors.

As for the RDNA 2-based GPU, it has great video encoding and decoding abilities, with support for decoding and encoding H.264 and H.265 as well as AV1 decoding support. AMD even has DisplayPort 2.0 UHBR10 support in its new Ryzen 7000 series CPU and its integrated RDNA 2-based GPU.

Intel Core i9-13900K 'Raptor Lake' CPU turns up on Newegg, costs $660 01

Newegg has listed all of Intel's new 13th Gen Core "Raptor Lake" CPUs ahead of the Intel Innovation event, where we should see the company detail the entire stack of chips. Intel's new Core i9-13900K processor is priced at $660, while the Core i9-13900KF (which drops the integrated GPU) for $630.

Under that, we drop a couple of hundred dollars down to $450 for the Core i7-13700K processor, taking $20 off down to $430 for the Core i7-13700KF (once again, without the integrated GPU). Newegg lastly lists the Core i5-13600K for $330 and shaves another $20 down to $310 for the Core i5-13600KF processor.

AMD's new Ryzen 9 7950X "Zen 4" slaughtering benchmark records

The new AMD Ryzen 9 7950X was installed into a few different motherboards depending on the overclocker, with the following motherboards used to smash the HWBOT records: GIGABYTE X670E AORUS MASTER, ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme, ASRock X670 Taichi, and MSI's new X670E MEG ACE motherboards. Cooling-wise, the overclockers were using a Corsair H115i AIO liquid cooler.

Cinebench R15, Cinebench R20, Cinebench R23, and 7-zip records were achieved with the overclocked Ryzen 9 7950X processor, with the CPUs running at between 5.4GHz and 5.5GHz across all of the Zen 4 cores, with temperatures between 87C and a rather toasty 108C according to the Benchmate data.

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X hits 7.2GHz on single core, 6.5GHz all-core on LN2

Anthony Garreffa | Sep 25, 2022 9:14 PM CDT

AMD's new Ryzen 9 7950X "Zen 4" processor has been pushed to new limits just days before its official retail launch, with the new Zen 4 flagship CPU being pumped up to an incredible 7.2GHz on a single-core, and 6.5GHz all-core OC.

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X hits 7.2GHz on single core, 6.5GHz all-core on LN2 01

We know to use a high-end 360mm AIO cooler with AMD's new flagship Ryzen 9 7950X processor if you want to hit 5.7GHz but if you wanted to reach 5.8GHz and above on the Ryzen 9 7950X then you need to use some serious cooling. TUM_APISAK posted some CPU-Z validation screenshots of the new Ryzen 9 7950X hitting 7.2GHz and 6.GHz, check them out below.

A single Zen 4 core was overclocked to 7247MHz (7.2GHz) with 1.506V and chilled with LN2 cooling, while 6.5GHz all-core was reached with a little less voltage -- 1.465V -- but the same LN2 cooling. Not too shabby at all... 16 cores and 32 threads of next-gen Zen 4 CPU power at 6.5GHz, but not everyone has LN2 cooling.
